Artist statement

The play of light on the surface of an object or passing through a transparent form produces a visual playground of shapes, colors and distortions. Choosing to represent an object in an exaggerated format allows for abstractions within the interior. Guided by the breakdown of visible light, new encounters for the imagination open up windows into an intangible and fanciful world. By removing the hindrance of realistic representation, the familiar and traditional concept of recognition is exchanged for unrestricted possibilities afforded by the abstractions. Brilliant and luminous color along with the conceptualized separation of light combine in paintings that become metaphors of joy, celebration, triumph and delight.
